British Airways Covid Test FAQs

Is it safe to travel abroad with British Airways?

British Airways have implemented extra measures that comply with UK Government guidelines ensuring you can travel to and from your destination safely. Further information can be found on the British Airways website.

Do I need to wear a face mask on board a British Airways flight?

Face coverings are mandatory for all British Airways passengers aged 11 or over whilst on-board unless you qualify for the government exemption list. You’ll also be asked to stay in your seat as much as possible to maintain social distancing and to reduce social contact.

What implementations have British Airways put in place to reduce the risk of infection?

Whilst on-board, the air in the cabin is completely replaced every 2 to 3 minutes as it passes through HEPA filters. HEPA filters remove microscopic bacteria and virus clusters with over 99.9% efficiency, equivalent to hospital operating theatre standards. Further information on BA’s on-board protective measures can be found on their website.

What should I do before arriving in England?

As of 4am Monday 4 October 2021, the rules for international travel to England now depend on your vaccination status. Please note, all travellers must complete a passenger locator form prior to boarding regardless of vaccination status.

Fully vaccinated travellers must show proof of vaccination before boarding a British Airways flight.

Partially or unvaccinated travellers must show evidence of a negative Covid-19 test. This can be in the form of a PCR or Antigen test. Further guidance can be found on the government website.

What should I do once I have arrived in England?

Once you have disembarked from your British Airways flight, you’re required to follow the UK arrivals testing rules. These rules will vary according to the country you are arriving from.

What else do I need to know before travelling with British Airways?

Entry requirements differ from country to country and may be subject to change with very little notice so we advise that you check the British Airways and government website regularly before you travel.

We recommend using our Home Delivery Travel Planner to confirm that the lead times for your chosen test are in line with the country you are travelling to. This will ensure you have allowed enough time to test and receive your results within the required timeframe before your departure.

Each passenger is responsible for checking and conforming with the entry and exit requirements at their arrival and return destinations. Please be aware that if you fail to comply with these requirements you may not be able to travel with British Airways or be allowed to enter your destination.
