Day 2 and 8 Covid Test FAQ's

What are the Day 2 and 8 Tests?

The day 2 Covid test is designed to keep you and your contacts safe after travelling to the UK. Everyone entering England from abroad must take one or more Covid tests, depending on their vaccination status. If you are unvaccinated, partially vaccinated or vaccinated with a programme outside of the UK, Europe or USA programme, you must take the mandatory day 2 and 8 PCR tests.

If your day 2 test is negative, you are still required to continue isolating and take your day 8 test. If your test is positive, it is mandatory for you to continue isolating for another 10 days from the day after your test date. People you live with or have travelled with should also self-isolate for 10 days after your positive test.

If you have self-isolated for 10 days and had negative test results for both day 2 and 8 tests, you may end your self-isolating period.

Do I need to take the day 2 and day 8 tests if I’m fully vaccinated?

No. If you are arriving in the UK and are fully vaccinated under the UK vaccination programme or an approved overseas vaccination programme, you are not required to take any covid tests for travel for entry to the UK.

Can I use the day 2 and 8 tests after I arrive from a red-list country?

If you arrive in the UK from any country that is on the red list, you cannot use our day 2 and 8 tests. You must book a quarantine hotel that includes 2 Covid tests, following the government rule.

How do I book a day 2 and 8 test package?

Medicspot is a government-listed supplier of day 2 and 8 testing packages for international arrivals. You can easily book your tests online for home delivery by Royal Mail (If you book by 12 pm Monday - Friday, your test kits will be dispatched on the same day).

How much is a day 2 and 8 covid test package?

Our day 2 and 8 test packages cost just £150. This includes a free delivery, a doctor-signed certificate and a free returns label to send your swab to our laboratories.

What will my test kit include?

Your private test kit will include instructions, a cotton swab, sample tube, clear sealable bag and a return box with a security label.

Does day 2 and day 8 testing include genomic sequencing?

There is a requirement by the UK government to conduct genomic sequencing on all positive test results from day 2 tests. This is a very expensive process that increases the overall cost of the testing package.

Can I use the free NHS tests for my day 2 and 8 tests?

The free NHS tests are not eligible for day 2 and 8 testing; these tests must be purchased from a government-approved provider such as Medicspot.

Can I get my day 2 and 8 test kits early?

You can order your day 2 test on or before day 2 but you can only receive your day 8 test on or after day 8. You can’t be in physical possession of your day 8 test before day 8 of your arrival in the UK.

When can I leave quarantine?

When you arrive in England you must go directly to your quarantine location and not leave until 10 days have passed. You can only leave quarantine once you have both received a negative day 2 and day 8 test result and passed the 10 day quarantine period. Please see further information on the government website.

Can I still use Test to Release to leave quarantine early?

Test to Release tests can be used by unvaccinated travellers to the UK to end their quarantine early. These tests must be taken on or after day 5 of your arrival in the country. If you test negative for coronavirus on day 5 you will be able to leave quarantine, however, you are still required to take the additional test on day 8.

Can I leave quarantine early if my day 8 test is negative?

No, you must stay in quarantine until day 10 even if your day 8 test is negative.

Can I leave quarantine after day 10 if I haven’t received my day 8 results?

No, you must receive a negative day 8 test and complete your 10-day quarantine before leaving self-isolation.

What happens if I provide incorrect information or don’t quarantine?

You may be fined if you do not quarantine. The fine is £1,000 for the first time and up to £10,000 for further breaches. The government website provides additional information on this.
