Starting from 4 am - 11 February 2022, all unvaccinated or partially vaccinated travellers arriving in the UK are required to take the pre-departure and day 2 PCR tests. This replaces the previous regulation to take the day 2 and 8 tests. Travellers are also no longer required to quarantine for 10 days, unless test positive on day 2 PCR.
All fully vaccinated travellers are also no longer required to take any day 2 testing after arriving in England. This replaces the previous regulation to take the day 2 lateral flow test.
You can find all the information you need about choosing the right tests for your travels, booking your tests and when to take your tests using our updated travel planner. Any future changes to travel tests rules will be reflected on our website as soon as they are confirmed by the UK Government.
The Day 2 PCR test is designed to keep you and your contacts safe after travelling to the UK. The PCR test looks for the Covid-19 virus on a swab sample collected from the back of the throat and nose. It works by detecting the genetic material in the virus called RNA.
If you get a positive result from your day 2 test, you must self-isolate for 10 days starting from the day that the test was conducted.
No, as of 11th of February 2022, fully vaccinated arrivals are no longer required to take any tests (including the day 2 test). The day 2 PCR test is mandatory for all unvaccinated or partially-vaccinated arrivals in the UK.
Our Day 2 PCR test cost just £49. This includes free express delivery, 24 hours customer service and free doctor-signed certificate.
We recommend ordering your Day 2 tests as soon as possible to guarantee that you reserve your test kit. You can order your test here.
You can get your PCR test order online and perform the test at the comfort of your home.
NHS tests cannot be used for your Day 2 test. Instead, you must use a private provider like Medicspot who can issue you a doctor-signed certificate.
Your Day 2 PCR test kit will be dispatched on the same day if you order before 12 pm on Monday-Friday.
Please place your order before travel to ensure your test kits arrive on time.
Your Day 2 PCR test kit will include an instructions manual, a cotton swab, sample tube, clear sealable bag, a return box with a security label and a free Royal Mail returns label.
You will perform your samples using a gentle and non-invasive swab. It involves inserting a thin, flexible stick with a cotton tip into your tonsil and/or nostrils in order to sample any fragments of viruses. The swab is rotated several times in both before being withdrawn and is then sealed in a tube to be sent to a lab for analysis. See the infographic below for a step by step visual on how to perform the PCR test yourself.
If you test positive on your day 2 PCR, you must self-isolate to avoid spreading the infection to other people. The self-isolation period is 10 full days and it started from the day you had the test.
A negative test result means that there was no evidence of genetic material of Covid-19 in the swab of airways. This is usually interpreted as meaning that you are not infected with Covid-19.
The day 2 PCR tests are mandatory for all unvaccinated and partially vaccinated arrivals entering the UK. You may face a penalty up to £2,000 if you fail to test for Covid-19 on or before day 2 of your arrival. Please see the UK government guidance for more information.
