Finnair Covid Test FAQs

Is it safe to travel abroad with Finnair?

Finnair have implemented extra measures that comply with UK Government guidelines ensuring you can travel to and from your destination safely. Further information can be found on the Finnair website.

Do I need to wear a face mask on board an Finnair flight?

Finnair require all passengers to wear a mask covering the mouth and nose at airports in Finland, at all Finnair service points in other airports, when you board the aircraft and during the flight. Face coverings can be a surgical or a homemade mask made of tightly woven fabric. Face shields, masks with a valve or scarves are not accepted as masks as they allow air to escape and do not provide comparable protection. If passengers have a medical condition that prevents them from wearing a mask they are required to inform Finnair 72 hours before their flight.

Children under the age of 7 do not need to wear a mask. Please see the Finnair website for a full list of exemptions.

What implementations have Finnair put in place to reduce the risk of infection?

Finnair ensures that each of their aircrafts are professionally cleaned and disinfected on a daily basis which is effective for over 24 hours. Additionally, each aircraft is fitted with state of the art air filtration (HEPA) systems which operate to hospital standards.

What should I do before arriving in England?

As of 4am Monday 4 October 2021, the rules for international travel to England now depend on your vaccination status. Please note, all travellers must complete a passenger locator form prior to boarding regardless of vaccination status.

Fully vaccinated travellers must show proof of vaccination before boarding a Finnair flight.

Partially or unvaccinated travellers must show evidence of a negative Covid-19 test. This can be in the form of a PCR or Antigen test. Further guidance can be found on the government website.

What should I do once I have arrived in England?

Once you have disembarked from your Finnair flight, you’re required to follow the UK arrivals testing rules. These rules will vary according to the country you are arriving from.

What else do I need to know before travelling with Finnair?

Entry requirements differ from country to country and may be subject to change with very little notice so we advise that you check the Finnair and government website regularly before you travel.

We recommend using our Home Delivery Travel Planner to confirm that the lead times for your chosen test are in line with the country you are travelling to. This will ensure you have allowed enough time to test and receive your results within the required timeframe before your departure.

Each passenger is responsible for checking and conforming with the entry and exit requirements at their arrival and return destinations. Please be aware that if you fail to comply with these requirements you may not be able to travel with Finnair or be allowed to enter your destination.
