What to expect each month

If you’ve decided to begin treatment with the GLP-1 receptor agonist Wegovy (semaglutide) for weight management, you’re likely asking:

  • “When will I see results?”
  • “What will change each month?”

At Medicspot, we know this journey can feel both hopeful and a little uncertain.

That’s why our care is clinically supervised – a prescribing pharmacist reviews each case for appropriateness, and we’ll verify your medical history using your NHS Summary Care Record (SCR). Your health coach will monitor your progress and support you every step of the way.

tip

“Use this month-by-month guide as a realistic roadmap, but remember, it’s not a race. Everyone’s progress on Wegovy is different. Understanding what typically happens each month can help you stay motivated and set healthy goals.”

How Wegovy works and why timing matters

Wegovy belongs to the class of GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) receptor agonists. These medications mimic a natural hormone that regulates appetite and blood sugar. Here’s what you might experience:

  • You start feeling fuller sooner and for longer after meals.¹
  • You experience fewer hunger spikes and reduced food cravings.²
  • Combined with a calorie-reduced diet and increased physical activity, the medication supports meaningful weight loss over time.

The first months on Wegovy are about building the foundation – adjusting your dose, adapting your routine, changing eating habits – rather than expecting dramatic results overnight.

Month 1 - settling in and building habits

During your first 4 weeks on Wegovy, weight loss is often modest. Some people notice the scales begin to move, others mainly notice appetite changes. Both are normal at this stage.

Why month 1 matters

Month 1 is about adaptation. Your body is getting used to the medication dose, and your routine (diet, movement, check-ins) is being established. Your appetite may decrease and you might feel less tempted to snack.

Key tips for this phase

  • Track how your appetite and cravings are changing rather than focusing purely on the number on the scale.
  • Respond to your check-ins with your health coach or prescriber. Any side effects (i.e. nausea, digestion changes) should be reviewed quickly.
  • Continue with a reduced-calorie plan and aim to maintain or gently increase physical activity as tolerated.
  • Recognise that small changes this month build toward bigger ones later.
tip

“In month one we focus on your daily habits – checking what you’re eating, how you’re feeling, and getting you comfortable with weekly doses and changes.”

– Laura

Month 2 - deeper appetite control and early results

Wegovy results after 2 months

Around weeks 5 to 8:

  • The fullness effect of the medication becomes more consistent.
  • You may start to notice your weight loss increasing.
  • You might notice slight changes in waist size or how clothes fit.

Why month 2 matters

By month 2, the medication’s appetite regulating effects and your growing habit changes are beginning to take effect.

Key tips for this phase

  • Review your food choices with your health coach. Identify one snack swap or portion adjustment you can make.
  • Gradually increase your incidental movement (walking, standing breaks) if medically appropriate.
  • If you’re not seeing much change yet, don’t worry – consistency counts more than speed.
  • Celebrate even small wins, like feeling less hungry, getting through a full day without craving, fitting into an old outfit.
tip

“Now we begin layering small habit-changes, such as snacking reduction, mindful eating, and a light increase in movement.”

– Laura

Months 3-4 - visible changes and habit reinforcement

Wegovy results after 3 months and 4 months

During months 3 and 4 (weeks 9-16):

  • Appetite control and fullness become more consistent and less variable.
  • Weight loss may accelerate. Real-world data show ~5.9% weight loss at 3 months and ~10.9% at 6 months in one cohort study.³
  • Clothes may feel visibly looser. You might get feedback from others or notice changes in your own confidence.
  • The routine of new eating and movement habits becomes more embedded.

Why this matters

This phase is where momentum builds. The medication plus your new habits start to combine so that change becomes more evident and sustainable.

Key tips for this phase

  • Look for non-scale victories, such as improved energy, better sleep, improved mood or motivation.
  • If you plateau or slow down, talk to your Medicspot coach about habits rather than quick-fix changes.
  • Use this momentum to strengthen new routines, like regular meals, scheduled movement, and consistent check-ins.

Months 5-6 - stabilising and setting medium-term goals

What you might notice

Around weeks 17-24:

  • Appetite and fullness regulation are well established.
  • Weight loss may continue steadily – some patients might see Wegovy results after 6 months of ~10% weight loss or more of starting body weight.³
  • Your behaviour changes may now feel more like part of your “normal routine” rather than a new effort.
  • You might start shifting your focus from “making changes” to “maintaining change”.

Why this matters

Month 6 is a milestone. You’ve passed beyond the initial adaptation phase and are now in the ‘progress and habit’ phase.

But one review showed that stopping semaglutide led to weight regain of ~11.6% on average between weeks 68 and 120.⁴ This emphasises why maintaining new habits and continuity support matters.

Key tips for this phase

  • Have your Medicspot coach review what has worked and what hasn’t. Set a medium-term goal for the next 3-6 months.
  • Begin thinking about your ‘maintenance strategy’ – how these new habits can become long-term rather than short-term.
  • Understand that while early progress is great, staying the course and embedding change bring long-term benefit.

Why everyone is different

Your results on Wegovy will depend on many factors: your starting weight or BMI, whether you have type 2 diabetes, how consistent you are with medication and lifestyle support, your age, and your individual metabolism.

For example, in the STEP trials for semaglutide 2.4mg, participants without diabetes lost on average ~14.9-17.4% of body weight at 68 weeks.²

What you can do to optimise your results

  • Be consistent with your weekly dose and attend your scheduled check-ins with your health coach.
  • Stick with a reduced-calorie diet and physical activity plan. Medication is a powerful aid, but it’s not a stand-alone solution.
  • Use your Medicspot health coach – regular check-ins help you embed habits and manage side effects.
  • Monitor side effects and report any concerns early.
  • Set realistic expectations – losing ~5-10% of your starting weight by month 6 is a fantastic outcome. Further loss might follow depending on your circumstances.

Maintaining progress beyond 6 months

By month 6 you’re well into the routine and change phase. However, long-term data shows continuing medication and lifestyle support are key.

For example, in one extension study of semaglutide, stopping treatment led to significant weight regain of ~11.6%.⁴

At Medicspot:

  • Your health coach tracks your progress and helps you turn new habits into lasting routines.
  • Your prescriber reviews your treatment for ongoing safety and suitability.
  • Together, we’ll focus on maintaining results and supporting your long-term goals.
