Our Commitment to Safety

We help people achieve sustainable, evidence-based weight loss underpinned by strong clinical governance.

All services are clinician-led, compliant with UK regulations, and reviewed regularly for safety, accuracy, and patient wellbeing.

Eligibility and Assessment

Every patient completes a detailed, clinician-designed health assessment covering:

  • Medical history, BMI, and current medication
  • Lifestyle, mental health, and contraindications
  • Screening for eating disorders and other exclusion criteria

No treatment is prescribed without this assessment being reviewed by a UK-registered independent prescriber.

Summary Care Record Check

Before prescribing any GLP-1 medication, Medicspot clinicians review each patient’s NHS Summary Care Record (SCR) to verify:

  • Current medication list
  • Allergy and contraindication status
  • Medical history

This step is mandatory for all patients and ensures accuracy and safety in prescribing. Usually, we can access this electronically from your GP practice via NHS internal systems (known as the NHS spine); if we cannot access your record in this way, we’ll request you to obtain a copy from your GP practice before we are able to make a prescribing decision.

Clinical Review and Prescribing

  • Each case is reviewed manually by an independent prescriber experienced in GLP-1 treatment.
  • No prescriptions are automated or guaranteed.
  • Prescriptions are fulfilled by The Independent Pharmacy (TIP), a GPhC-registered pharmacy.
  • Every prescription includes a full audit trail and is subject to regular governance review.

Ongoing Safety Monitoring

  • Monthly clinical check-ins and continuous patient support.
  • All side effects or concerns are escalated to our clinical lead, and reported using the Yellow Card process from the MHRA.
  • Summary Care Record updates are reviewed periodically. If electronically accessed, this will be reviewed each month, otherwise a repeat request for a print out will be requested based on risk criteria and clinical judgement.
  • NHS GP’s are notified of any new prescriptions each time a medication is prescribed.

These measures “align with the standards expected of a regulated CQC provider” and to the GPhC prescribing guidelines for these medications.

Exclusion Criteria and Safeguards

We do not prescribe GLP-1 medication for individuals with:

  • Current, previous or suspected eating disorders
  • Unstable mental health or suicidal ideation or self harm
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Medical conditions which can be worsened or cause significant side effects
  • Outside of the age range for the medications’ licence

Our systems automatically block these cases to ensure safety and compliance.

Built-In Fraud and Verification Protocols

  • ID and full-body photo verification for every patient
  • AI-manipulated or edited images trigger manual review
  • Assessment answers cannot be changed after submission
  • Exclusion criteria cannot be bypassed

Designed for Sustainable, Long-Term Care

We focus on behaviour change and ongoing support, not quick fixes.
Each patient receives:

  • A 16-week behaviour-change programme developed by Dr Adam Abbs GP with Registered Dietitian and Nutritionist Mei Wan
  • Weekly health-coach check-ins
  • Monthly medical reviews
  • Education on nutrition, sleep, stress, and physical activity
  • End-of-programme guidance for safely coming off medication

Regulation and Clinical Standards

Medicspot operates under UK clinical and data-protection guidance:

  • Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) – data-protection compliance
  • NICE / MHRA – evidence and guidance we follow for treatment suitability

Additionally, our prescribing partner is registered by – and subject to the regulations of – the following organisations:

  • Care Quality Commission (CQC) – oversight of clinical standards
  • General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) – pharmacy regulation

Transparency and Accountability

We believe transparency builds trust. That’s why:

  • Every prescription has a clinical audit trail.
  • No prescriber is financially incentivised to issue medication.
  • We regularly audit prescribing outcomes and update clinical policy accordingly.
  • We gain consent for communication with your NHS GP before treatment starts
