How Regulation Works in Practice

Medicspot operates as the digital platform and clinical governance hub for our weight-management programme, as well as providing all the support and wraparound care.

All medical prescribing is carried out by independent prescribers at The Independent Pharmacy (TIP).

This means:

  • All prescriptions are issued by TIP’s CQC-registered and GPhC-regulated service.
  • Medicspot ensures that clinical oversight, content review, and patient safety protocols meet the same standards expected of regulated providers.

We work in partnership with TIP to maintain a shared governance log of all prescriptions and patient outcomes.

Our Regulatory and Compliance Framework

Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA)

Medicspot adheres to MHRA guidance governing the safe use and promotion of prescription medicines.
We do not advertise or promote any specific prescription-only medication to the public.

All clinical content is written and reviewed in line with MHRA’s Blue Guide and relevant product licences.

NICE Guidance

We follow national guidance published by NICE in all prescribing and care provisions.

Advertising Standards Authority (ASA)

All information and communications follow CAP Code and ASA standards for medical advertising. We ensure:

  • No direct promotion of prescription-only medicines (POMs).
  • Balanced, factual language that avoids misleading or exaggerated claims.
  • Clear distinctions between general information and medical advice.

Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and Data Protection

Medicspot is registered with the ICO and complies with UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018 requirements.

We apply strict data-minimisation, encryption, and consent procedures across our digital platform. Data is retained in line with GDPR and NHS clinical record best practices.

All patient data shared with TIP is handled under a secure data-sharing agreement and used only for clinical purposes and dispensing/fulfilment of orders

Clinical and Ethical Oversight

Although Medicspot is not itself CQC- or GPhC-regulated, we maintain equivalent governance principles:

  • All medical information is reviewed by UK-registered doctors.
  • Prescribing safety and suitability is overseen by Dr Abby Hyams.
  • We conduct regular internal audits and reviews in collaboration with The Independent Pharmacy to maintain compliance and quality assurance.

Working with The Independent Pharmacy (TIP)

The Independent Pharmacy is responsible for all prescribing and dispensing activity within our service.
They are:

  • CQC-registered for remote clinical prescribing.
  • GPhC-registered for pharmacy dispensing.
  • Fully compliant with UK standards for medicine supply and patient confidentiality.

Medicspot and TIP work together under a shared governance framework to ensure every prescription is reviewed, authorised, and dispensed safely.

Transparency and Accountability

We believe transparency builds trust. That’s why we clearly identify our regulatory partners.
