Does Mounjaro Need To Be Refrigerated?

Your Mounjaro KwikPen will arrive chilled and protected in insulated packaging to maintain its temperature.

• Keep it in the fridge between 2°C and 8°C.¹
• Do not freeze the liquid – if you suspect it’s been frozen, don’t use it.
• Check the expiry date printed on the label before each use.

Once you’ve taken your first dose from a pen:

• You can store the opened pen at room temperature (below 30°C) for up to 30 days².
• Keep it away from direct sunlight, radiators, or car dashboards.
• Always replace the cap and store it with the needle removed.
• Keep out of reach of children and pets.

With holidays, work trips, or special events, you may find that from time to time you need to take your medication with you to administer while you’re away from home.

What do you need to take with you

Make sure you pack the following when travelling:

• Your Mounjaro KwikPen
• Enough needles for all planned doses (plus 2-3 spares)
• Your sharps bin for safe disposal

If you’re travelling abroad, you should also take:

• A copy of your prescription for customs purposes
• Travel insurance that covers pre-existing medical conditions

The way you transport your pen depends on whether you’ve already used it or not.

If you’ve used one or more doses from your pen

• You can store and transport it at room temperature (below 30°C).
• If you’re flying, always take your pen in your hand luggage – never in the hold.
• Avoid leaving it in hot environments, such as cars or direct sunlight.

If you haven’t yet used a dose from your pen

• Keep unused pens refrigerated (2°C-8°C) until you’re ready to start using them.
• Once a pen reaches room temperature, it must be used within 30 days.
• If you’re only away for a short trip and will use it soon, you can carry it at room temperature.
• For longer trips, you’ll need to keep it cool during travel.

To maintain fridge temperature while travelling, use a thermos or vacuum flask rated to stay cool for several hours. Simply place the pen inside, keep it closed, and transfer it to a fridge on arrival. You may need to open it for inspection if requested by customs.

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a temperature-sensitive medication. Exposure to heat or freezing temperatures can change its molecular structure, making it less effective or potentially unsafe. Correct storage ensures:
